Is "gogore" correctly spelled?
The word "gogore" was used on here earlier and it made me laugh. I haven't heard it for years.
Is it actally a word that can be written?
I can't find it written down anywhere. It seems similar to gorp (my spelling) as opposed to gawp.
Gawp/gorp, gobbin gogore, gormless, gobs**te. They all belong to the same family.
And they reckon that every family has at least one.

Never heard of that one! My dad's version was home-chucks and ommadawns ( said about the inhabitiants of Crooke!)

But what of gogores?
Nearest Ive seen is gewgaw = a bauble/trinket.
Also the name of the company in the great Ealing comedy "The Lady Killers"

It was I that referred to another person as a gogore on another thread. I didn't expect it to arouse so much interest
I must admit though that word has always made me laugh If you call someone a gogore down here where I live they don't know what your on about as they never heard of the word!

seeing as it was me he aimed it at I feel I must say as a Wiganer I have never heard the term. Is it made up or does it come from some corner of the borough
Replied: 15th Sep 2008 at 18:26
It isn't made up... i dunno if it was confined to some minority suburb. Interesting.... Lombera Green was slightly different even though it's still in wigan.

The word was used a lot in Hindley.
Never seen it written but it sounded like gog-awe

Thank you for coming forward sinex. Thanks also to ballboy for responding.
As I said, I hven't heard it for years, and I am still smiling as I write.
I looked at the dialect and old words section on WW but no mention. I was wary of "muckraking" and didn't wish to name names.
Didn't want Gogore-gate on our hands did we.
